North Coast Fly Fishers to host 15th annual Northern Ohio Fly Fishing Expo


It has been said that fly fishing is the “pure science” of fishing. Today, men and women around the world spend their leisure time learning new ties and come spring attempt to match wits with musky, steelhead, pike, smallmouth bass, crappie and trout.

One of the largest fly fishing expos happens right here in Northern Ohio. This coming Saturday, January 21, 2016 The North Coast Fly Fishers will be hosting their 15th Annual Northern Ohio Fly Fishing Expo that will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center in Brecksville. The entrance to the Center is just across from where Wallings Road dead-ends into Brecksville Road.

A total of eighteen vendors from eight states as well as Ontario, Canada will be on hand with their specialized merchandise. Celebrity fly tiers and guides will be on hand to demonstrate their favorite ties as well as speak at the four simultaneous seminars held throughout the day.

‘Topics for the various seminars in clued “The Fundamentals of Fly Fishing,” Tenkara gear and tactics,” “Fly Tying by the Masters,” “Fish Species,” “Advance Presentation Techniques,” and “Where to Fish In Northeast Ohio.” Back this year will be South Platte, Colorado guide Duane Redford who will speak on “Recognizing the Obvious and Exploiting the Obscure.”

At the casting lanes, six different experts will be demonstrating various techniques throughout the day including basic casting, single and two handed spey casting as well as casting with Tenkara gear.

Adult admission is $10, Youth admission (13-17) is $5 and children 12 and under along with Boy and Girl Scouts in uniform and active duty and separated military with valid military ID will be admitted free. For Boy Scouts working on the Fly Fishing Merit Badge Counselors will be on hand to help qualify the youth for their FFMB. The Fly tying and casting lessons are available to all at no additional charge.

Raffles and Silent Auctions will also be held during the event adding further excitement with chances to win fantastic prizes including a day of fishing at the Sunnybrook Trout Club.

Over the course of my life I have worked a variety of jobs including newspapers, retail camera sales and photography. Eight years ago I embarked on yet another career as writer. This included articles concerning sports and cultural events in Cleveland, Ohio as well reviews of the many theatrical productions around town.
