Great Big Home + Garden Show brings an early spring to Cleveland


Lights! Camera!...AND ACTION! The Eighth Annual Great Big Home + Garden Show is nearly here. This highly anticipated event will be on stage at the Cleveland IX Center from February 3 through 12, 2017.

In case you haven’t guess, this year’s theme is Blockbuster Movies and will feature themed garden showcases, an Ultimate Smart Home, Luxury Lake Living Experience, The Idea Home, numerous vendors and home improvement companies as well as a host of celebrity guests.

The list of celebrity guests include Kortney Wilson from HGTV’s hit show “Masters of Flip” whose appearance is sponsored by Kichler Lighting, Scott McGillivray who is the host of HGTV’s “Income Property” whose appearance is sponsored by Cambria, Kathy Ireland of “Kathy Ireland® Worldwide Brand” whose appearance is sponsored by American Family Insurance and Matt Fox of “”Room by Room” and “Around The House” fame.

Set to return this year will be the ever popular Garden Showcase created by Northeast Ohio’s top landscapers and sponsored by WKYC-TV, WDOK-TV and WQAL-FM Radio. Come stroll through such themed gardens as “The Wizard of Oz” and “The Godfather.” You may even wish to bring a bag of popcorn to enjoy as you marvel at the creativeness on display using the newest of landscaping techniques

Another favorite stop for attendees is the combined Main Stage and Loretta Paganini Cooking Stage that will house the celebrity appearances as well as cooking demonstrations. The stage is designed and built by the Home Builders Association and is sponsored by 85 Lumber, WKYC-TV and The Home Builders Association.

Relax in the center of the Expo at the I-X Bistro that features a full service white tablecloth restaurant where attendees can experience fine dining in the center of the Garden Showcase.

The Petitti Gardening Stage will host daily seminars that cover such categories as landscape and flora design along with furnishings for outdoor rooms all taught by top Northeast Ohio landscape experts. The Petitti Floral Mart will also feature various collections of outdoor furniture sets and plants that will be available for purchase. Sunday, February 12th will be “Kids Gardening Day” from 12 noon to 4 p.m. where youngsters can complete fun and simple garden projects.

Friday, Feb. 3: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 4: 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Sunday, Feb. 5: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Mon - Fri, Feb. 6 – 10: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Saturday, Feb. 11: 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Sunday, Feb. 12: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

This year’s Expo will be held at the Cleveland I-X Center located at One I-X Center Drive in Cleveland, Ohio (located next to Cleveland Hopkins Airport off Route 237 Berea Freeway).

Adult tickets for the event are $15 day of show, $12 when purchased at any discount Drub Mart or online at www.greatbighomeandgarden.com, $11 for Seniors 65+ with ID (these tickets are for Monday through Thursday only and may be purchased at the show box office ), $10 for group tickets for parties of 20 or more, $5 for children age 6 to 12 years and free to children 5 and under.

Who is Mark Horning?

Over the course of my life I have worked a variety of jobs including newspapers, retail camera sales and photography. Eight years ago I embarked on yet another career as writer. This included articles concerning sports and cultural events in Cleveland, Ohio as well reviews of the many theatrical productions around town. These days are spent photographing professional dance groups, theater companies and various galas and festivals as well as attending various stage performances and posting reviews about them.
