Canton Charge fights back to within inches of victory over Raptors 905 only to be denied
Down by as many as 28 points, the Canton Charge rallied in the fourth quarter to come back to within one basket of tying but time ran out as The Canton Charge (16-12), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the East-leading Raptors 905 (22-7), 93-86 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on Tuesday evening.
Early on it looked grim for Canton as the Raptors went on an 11-0 tear in the opening minutes of the game. The fellows from up north held a double digit lead all the way from 9:22 in the first quarter clear through to the last remaining 1:06 of the game when Canton rallied. It was in the fourth quarter that the Charge made a 26-6 run getting them to within a basket to tie with 44.5 seconds on the clock. The Raptors had other ideas as Edy Tavares slammed home a power dunk with 19.0 seconds left slamming the door shut on the Charges courageous try.
Canton’s Quinn Cook was high scorer for the game with 32 points, hitting 13-of-22 with four assists in 38 minutes on the floor. Eric Moreland was good for 10 points, 14 boards, six steals and five blocks in 35 minutes of playing time. John Holland added his 13 points, four rebounds, five assists and two steals in 43 minutes of time. Through the course of the came Canton managed to force 25 turnovers that resulted in 33 points lighting up the scoreboard.
All five Raptors starters of this pro caliber team scored in double figures with Brady Heslip leading with 22 points, six assists and two steals in 36 minutes. Edy Tavares delivered a double-double performance with 11 points, fourteen rebounds and seven blocks in 28 minutes. Bruno Caboclo (on assignment from Toronto) scored 16 points and eight rebounds in 29 minutes.
