Canton Charge hold on for first home victory

It was a combination of a stronger defense and accurate shooting that came together as the Canton Charge (powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers) were able to hold on for their first home victory of the season against the Delaware 87ers. This brings the Charge’s record to 5-7 while the 87ers fall to 3-11. The contest took place at the Canton Memorial Civic Center this past Friday night.

Charge Guard London Perrantes tied the franchise assist record has he scored 16 assists, 13 points and two steals in 39 minutes of court time giving him his first career double-double as a professional. High scorer for Canton was John Holland with 23 points to go along with his five rebounds and four steals in 35 minutes on the floor. Kendrick Perkins also earned a double-double with fifteen points and 13 rebounds in 30 minutes.

The bench contributed in the guise of Gerald Beverly who added 14 points, eight boards and three blocks in 19 minutes. Double figures honors also went to Marcus Thorton (18), JaCorey Williams (16) and Akeem Springs (10)

On the Delaware side of the court it was Christian Wood scoring a double-double with 25points and 13 rebounds. On assignment from the Philadelphia 76ers was Furkan Korkmaz who contributed 18 points with two steals in31 minutes. James Webb III was good for 17 points, seven rebounds and two steals with 31 minutes of off the bench playing time.

It wasn’t until the third quarter that Canton took charge as they outscored Delaware 33-19 by limiting the visitors to 4-of-18 shoting or 22%. Down by three after the half, Canton rang up a 13-2 run in just 3:09 of play setting the trend for the remainder of the game as Delaware was unable to recapture the lead. The game also set a season best mark of 27 for assists.

The next home game will be on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 7 p.m. as the Canton Charge goes up against the Grand Rapids Drive (Detroit Pistons). Tickets can be purchased online at www.cantoncharge.com or by phone by calling (866) 444.1944.
