Canton Charge takes the Raptors 905 to school
Over twenty four hundred enthusiastic students and teachers from the Canton School District filled the seats at the Canton Memorial Civic Center as the Canton Charge (10-16), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers held off the Raptors 905 (15-12) in a 102-97 victory. The game was part of the Canton Charge annual School Day that this year was presented by McDonalds. The game’s tip-off time was 11 a.m. thus allowing the students to see the entire game.
It was a battle under the boards as each team fought for control during each scoring attempt. Canton’s Marcus Thornton netted a team-high 27 points with five rebounds and five assists in a team individual season-high 46 minutes played. JaCorey Williams added 21 points and five boards in 35 minutes. Caleb Swanigan posted his sixth double-double in eight games on assignment from Portland – scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in 31 minutes. John Holland scored 16 points in 26 minutes for his first action since 12/13, while Kendrick Perkins added 11 points and five rebounds in 17 minutes.
On the Raptor’s end of the court it was Davion Berry scoring a game high 29 points as he hit 10-of-17 shooting and 4-of-9 from the three point arc during 38 minutes of court time. His teammate Kaza Keane was good for 12 points nd six assists and two steals in 28 minutes off the bench. Bruno Caboclo hit for 10 points while grabbing nine rebounds in 29 minutes.
Canton’s next game is on the road tonight against the Erie Bay Hawks (Atlanta Hawks) with tip off at 7 p.m. The Charge will be back home on Saturday, January 20, 2018 for a game against the Sioux Falls Skyforce (Miami Heat) with a special tip-off time of 8 p.m. The first 2,500 fans will receive a Cavs winter hat courtesy of Phantom Fireworks.
