Canton Charge winning streak stopped at two by Skyforce

But for want of a three the game was lost. After 47 minutes and 57 seconds of up and down play with missed free throws and questionable officiating John Holland sent up a prayer from the center of the three point arc only to have the shot rim out of the basket as the Canton Charge (11-7) lost to the Sioux Falls Skyforce (15-15), 103-100. The contest was held this past Saturday at the Canton memorial Civic Center.

Alonzo Gee led the Skyforce with 23 points and six rebounds in 32 minutes while A.J. Hammons posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 boards as well as four blocks as he clocked in 34 minutes on the court. Matt Williams came off the bench to score 17 with Larry Drew made good with 13 points, 10 assists and six rebounds in 41 minutes.

In spite of their best efforts, the Canton Charge could not tie or lead at any time during the contest. Canton’s Marcus Thornton scored a season-high 35 points on 12-of-23 shooting in 36 minutes. John Holland scored 25 points and grabbed five rebounds in 38 minutes. Caleb Swanigan had nine points and 11 rebounds in 30 minutes on assignment from Portland, while Ante Zizic had nine points, nine boards and two blocks in 18 minutes on assignment from Cleveland.

Next on the calendar is an 11 a.m. tip-off as the Charge travel to New York to battle the Westchester Knicks (New York Knicks) on Tuesday, January 23, 2018.
