Cleveland Browns break ground at George Daniel Field in Lorain

Following the completion of five high quality synthetic turf sports fields in Cleveland, Dee and Jimmy Haslam have branched out to do the same in another areas in Northeast Ohio.

On Tuesday of this week members of the Lorain City School District, Lorain High School Coaching Staff, various Lorain elected officials as well as various student/athletes gathered on a snowy April day to break ground for the sixth field renovation project since the program began in 2016. Also on hand was the Cleveland Browns’ newest acquisition WR Jarvis Landry as well as Cleveland Browns mascot Chomps.

Dignitaries of the day included Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, Lorain High School Head Football coach Dave McFarland, Lorain City Schools CEO David Hardy, City of Lorain Mayor Chase Ritenauer and City of Lorain Council President Joel Arredondo. Also on hand were members of the Lorain High School Marching Band who played a number of tunes prior to and after the ground breaking ceremonies.

Since the program started five Cleveland Metropolitan School District sports fields have been refitted with the newest in surfacing technology. Those CMSD schools are Roye Kidd Stadium, James F. Rhodes Stadium, Bump Taylor Stadium, John Adams School and John Marshall High School.

This past season the Cleveland Browns donated all of the team’s net proceeds from items purchased by fans in the Cleveland Browns’ First Energy Pro Shop. The money goes to support the Cleveland Browns Give Back commitment to education and youth football as well as educational initiatives and additional neighborhood field projects.

An essential component of the Cleveland Browns Give Back is their continuing support of their #give10 program that is part of the team’s First and Ten initiatives. The program encourages fans to register on the team’s website and then commit to ten hours of community volunteering over the course of the year. Having completed their ten hours the fans are then invited to share their experiences on the site as well. The Cleveland Browns are the only team in the entire NFL that promotes a long-term volunteering program designed to unify the team and its fan base around the world.
