Canton Charge is able to hold College Park Skyhawks off at arms length

WOW! Pulling ahead by twenty points in the first half only to see the lead cut to just a two point margin in the third quarter but fighting back in the fourth to lead by as much as ten points then closing out the game for a tough win. This is how the contest went last night as the Canton Charge (25-13), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers sank their claws in and hung on for a 121-116 win over the College Park Skyhawks (19-19) at the Canton Memorial Civic Center. The win was the fourth in a current streak and the seventh in a row at home as 1919 fans looked on.

It was Muhammad-Ali Abdur Rahkman who lead the team with a career high 25 points as he hit the 50% mark from the field. Levi Randolph returned to the fold to score 21 points, five boards and four assists in 40 minutes. Two-Way Player Matt Mooney upped the franchise record with seven steals (six of those occurring in the first half) as he earned a double-double scoring 12 points and a season best 10 assists. This is the second game in a row that saw seven Canton Charge player hitting double digit scoring that included Dead Wade (18), Marques Bolden (17), Sir’Dominc Pointer (15), and J.P. Macura (11) who is returning from a ten day contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

For the birds it was Charles Brown Jr. leading his team with 28 points and nine rebounds making 11-for-19 from the field in 42 minutes on the court. Center Nick Ward was second with 20 points, four boards and two blocked shots. Cat Barber flew off the bench to net 19 points making 9-for-15 in 35 minutes.

The next Canton Charge home game is this Saturday, February 29, 2020 with special tip-off time of 2 p.m. as the team honors local heroes during the “We Are Canton Night” as they face the Capital City Go-Go! at the Canton Memorial Civic Center. The first 2,500 fans will receive a “We Are Canton” T-Shirt courtesy of Terminex.

Sunday, March 1, 2020 has the team traveling north to Rocket Field House in Cleveland, Ohio as they battle the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. The first 4,000 fans will receive a Jim Thorpe Bobblehead figure and children 14 and under are free with one adult ticket holder. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Canton Charge is part of the Cleveland Cavaliers organization and is also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Chairman and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, who play their games at Rocket Mortgage Field House in downtown Cleveland.
