Cleveland Charge beat the Wisconsin Herd in come from behind victory
While the weather this past Friday night outside the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio was a bit frosty, inside on the court the Cleveland Charge was red hot as the Cleveland Charge, presented by Cleveland Clinic, rounded up the Wisconsin Herd (8-15), 129-119.
The Herd started out strong hitting the most unlikely of shots as they sprang ahead to a 13 point lead hitting 64% to go ahead by a score of 40-27. The Charge came back in the second quarter with a 40 point scoring drive during the 12 minute segment when Malik Newman hit for 14 points during the period. This brought Cleveland to within 3 points as the teams took a mid game breather.
A rested Cleveland team hit on their first two possessions taking the lead but the Herd was not to be denied as they stormed back as the teams went back and forth trading the lead. The teams tied at 78-78 with 6:39 left in the third when the Charge caught fire and had a 23-11 run pulling ahead 101-89. Cleveland kept sinking shots in order to stay ahead for the remainder of the game.
Newman was high scorer for the game with 34 points as well as seven rebounds and four assists in 35 minutes on the court. Cam Young hit for a respectable 28 points on 7-of 12 shooting along with being perfect on the foul line in eight attempts. Justin James came off the bench to add 26 points on 9-of-16 with eight rebounds in 34 minutes. Crowd favorite Tacko Fall was good for 14 points, eight boards and four strong blocks in 26 minutes.
The Wisconsin group had Frank Mason III leading his team with 24 points and seven assists in 32 minutes off the bench, Tiwian Kendley and Terry Larrier tied in points at 19. Javin DeLaurier earned a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds in 29 minutes. In all the Herd managed 76 points from their reserves.
