Cleveland Charge return to the court to demolish a strong Delaware Blue Coats team
What a difference a day makes! Maybe it was the full moon in a clear Cleveland night sky but a reinvigorated Cleveland Charge team took the floor for the second night in a row against a very powerful Delaware Blue Coats team and handily defeated them. Cleveland took an early lead and held it throughout. The main difference between the two games was Cleveland was able to thwart Delaware’s steals by using laser accurate passes between the players.
The Cleveland Charge (5-19) of the NBA G League, presented by Cleveland Clinic, defeated the Delaware Blue Coats (17-7) 147-137 splitting a pair of back-to-back home games at the Wolstein Center in downtown Cleveland, Ohio.
The Charge came out fighting as they posted their best offensive half of the season during the first two quarters of the game scoring a season-high 79 points as they hit for 66% from the field as a team. They also lit up the court with 11-of-16 three pointers. Cam Young and Justin James matched each other at 19 points in the first half as the team took a 79-65 lead at the break. Cleveland’s 44 point second quarter tied a franchise record set nearly 10 years ago to the day when they battled the Erie BayHawks in 2012.
Leading by as much as 22 points in the second half the Charge boasted their highest scoring game of the season. In total they hit 19-of-28 from the three point arc for 68% which is the highest percentage in franchise history.
Breaking down the scoring for Cleveland it was Cam Young who lead the way with a game high 37 points from the field combined with five rebounds and five assists in 38 minutes. Tacko Fall earned his 11th double-double of the year with 14 points, 10 boards and two blocks in 25 minutes on the court. Jawun Evans was good for 22 points and five assists in 30 minutes off the bench and it was Wes Iwundu rounding out the double-digit scoring with 15 points and six rebounds in 32 minutes.
On the Delaware end of the court Shamorie Ponds came off the bench to be the high scorer for his team with 29 points and two steals in 24 minutes. Aaron Henry contributed 22 points and seven assists in 33 minutes coming off the bench as well. Jared Brownridge made good with 20 points in 26 minutes.
