Cleveland Charge takes the wind out of the Windy City Bulls and breeze to a victory




It was a true team effort as the Cleveland Charge (1-2) of the NBA G League, presented by Cleveland Clinic held on to defeat the Windy City Bulls (1-2), 103-94 at the Wolstein Center in downtown Cleveland, Ohio on Tuesday evening. The win was the teams first victory of the regular season and snapped a six game losing streak for the Charge dating all the way back to the Showcase Cup qualifying.


The Bulls took an early lead but the Charge kept fighting back taking the lead in the middle of the second quarter. This they held until the final buzzer. At one point going ahead by as much as 20 points. In the middle of the fourth quarter Windy City got some assistance from the team of referees as some rather artistic calls were made against Cleveland. The Bulls climbed back to as close as five points before a well placed 3 pointer sealed the deal as the Charge padded the lead to nine as the curtain fell.


Tre Scott had a monster game for Cleveland with a double-double of 18 points and 20 rebounds in 39 minutes. Justin James scored a team high 24 points while grabbing eight boards in 33 minutes. Malik Newman did double digit duty with 21 points while distributing seven assists in 34 minutes. Josh Huestis was Mr. Utility with nine points, six rebounds, two steals and two blocks in 30 minutes. In all the Charge outscored the Bulls 24-13 in the third quarter as they raced to their victory.


For Windy City it was Kerwin Roach earning a double double of 24 points, eleven rebounds and six assists in 40 minutes. Daniel Oturu also earned a double double of 21 points and 13 rebounds with two steals and two blocks in 31 minutes. Bryce Alford charged off the bench for 14 points and five boards in 28 minutes.


The Cleveland Charge now goes on an extended road tour for the next four games that starts with a game against the Maine Celtics on Saturday, January 15, 2022. Tip off is scheduled for 1 p.m. Fans can watch live by going to www.clevelandcharge.com or listen to the game on REAL 106.1 FM.


The Cleveland Charge returns home on January 28, 2022 for a 7 p.m. starting time followed by a game the next night, January 29, 2022 with tip-off at 7 p.m. as well. Thjis game will feature Bertman Ballpark Mustard Appreciation Night with the first 1,000 fans in attendance receiving a Cleveland Charge ball cap courtesy of Bertman Ballpark Mustard.
