Cleveland Charge wins with last second dunk against Greensboro Swarm
0.3 second. That was what the clock showed after Isaiah Mobley forced his way down the lane to hit a right handed dunk giving the Cleveland Charge (7-7) a one point lead after four quarters of very tough and physical basketball. It was a119-118 win against the Greensboro Swarm (4-9) that had the 2,237 fans on their feet cheering as one of the most exciting games ever came to an exciting climax.
The two teams kept pace with each other through most of the game when in the fourth quarter Cleveland had a run of points that seemingly put the game out of reach. Greensboro valiantly fought back and with seconds on the clock took a one point lead. Cleveland in-bounded the ball and began their march to the basket getting the ball into the hands of Mobley for the final dramatic slam.
Aleem Ford led the home team in scoring by coming off the bench for 24 points on 6-of-9 from the arc in 36 minutes. Zhaire Smith hit for 22 points on 7-of-19 from the field and 4-of-5 from three point land along with nine rebounds, two steal and two blocks in 37 minutes. Emoni Bates was good for 18 points while Mobley ended up the night with 14 points and six boards. Sharife Cooper rounded out the scoring with 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in 34 minutes.
It was an unusual game as the shot clocks at both ends of the court were removed prior to the game starting due to a defect. Instead, an announcer kept track of the shot clock time by announcing the 14 second left on time followed by a count down from five to one.
Jaylen Sims led his team with 26 points on 10-of-15 shooting along with three steals in 29 minutes. R. J. Hunter added 21 points along with four steals in 31 minutes on the court. Kent Bazemore charged off the bench to score 21 points for Greensboro in 26 minutes of play. This is the tenth game in a row that Cleveland has defeated Greensboro with the streak dating back to the 2018-2019 season.
