The Cleveland Charge grabs the Bulls by the horns and refuse to let go



It was a night of shifting emotions as the Cleveland Charge (2-2) of the NBA G League and presented by Cleveland Clinic clawed their way back from a 14 point second half deficit to defeat the Windy City Bulls (1-3), 111-110 at the Wolstein Center on Friday evening as they swept a two game set.

In this very physical match-up, Kyle Guy hit for 12 of the team’s 36 first quarter points as Cleveland hit 6-of-9 from the 3 point arch taking a lead of 36-26. Chicago responded in kind in the second quarter as a powerful defense kept the Charge to just 14 points that included a scoreless period of 3:51 in clock time. Chicago’s Daniel Oturu hit for 12 of the team’s 38 points in the second quarter as the Bulls pulled ahead by 14 at the half.

With just 5:04 left in the third quarter and still down 14 points (78-64) the Charge hit an 18-10 run to close the quarter bringing them within 6 points. With strong defense and notable shooting skills they scored on their first three possessions to tie the game up at 88-88.

Over the course of the fourth quarter the teams traded the lead five times with seven ties as things got bruising on the court. Cleveland’s defense locked down for the final 1:53 keeping the Bulls scoreless until their final shot.


Kyle Guy was top scorer for Cleveland with 33 points on 5-of-9 from the three point line with eight rebounds and five assists in 41 minutes of play. Justin James hit for 18 with five rebounds and four assists in 31 minutes off the bench. Josh Huestis came off the bench for 15 points on 5-of-9 three pointers on 29 minutes of playing time.


Up north it was all five Chicago Indy City Bull starters scoring in double figures as Daniel Oturu scored 29 points, 10 boards and two blocks in 35 minutes on the court. Devon Dotson added a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds with seven assists and two steals in 37 minutes. Ethan Thompson rounded out the scoring with 19 points and seven assists in 38 minutes.

The Cleveland Charge now hits the road for the next four games that begins with a contest with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Tuesday, November 16 at 12:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on REAL 106.1 FM or you can watch the game on www.clevelandcharge.com. The next home game is set for Monday, December 6, 2021 against the Iowa Wolves (Minnesota Timberwolves) with tip-off scheduled for 6:00 p.m. at the Wolstein Center. Great seats start at $6 a seat.
