Canton Charge has Cavs night spoiled as Delaware hands them a defeat
The Canton Charge (6-8), powered by the NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers, were defeated by the Delaware 87ers (7-6) this past Friday as 3,206 were on hand at the Canton Memorial Civic Center. The game was Cavs Night and was presented by GE Lighting. Along with a Cavalier T-Shirt give-away Charge fans had a chance to have their photos taken with the Cavaliers NBA championship Trophy.
Both teams managed to keep pace with each other during the first half with the Sevens trailing 53 to 48 at the half. The wheels came off the cart for Canton in the third quarter when Delaware out did Canton 37-20 as they hit six three-pointers while converting 14-of-26 that was good for 54%. At one point in the game the Charge surged ahead to a 12 point lead only to see it evaporate.
Quinn Cook was the top scorer with 27 points, six boards and four assists with 39 minutes of play. John Holland scored 18 with four steals in 41 minutes while Chris Evans managed 19 points with five rebounds and three steals in 42 minutes. Eric Moreland added 15 points to the total with six rebounds and four blocks in 37minutes. Rookie Roosevelt Jones found his season high with 15 points and 12 boards in 31 minutes.
On the Delaware side it was James Webb III with 22 points, six rebounds and five assists in 38 minutes. David Laury III was good for 18 points off the bench as he hit 6-of-9 shooting with 5 rebounds in 21 minutes. Three players (Dionte Christmas, Shawn Long and Brandon Triche) each scored 16 points on the night
This coming Friday at 7 p.m. (December 23, 2016) will be Salvation Army Night as Canton takes on the Windy City Bulls. Tickets start at just $8. Special players jerseys will be auctioned off during the game with the benefits going to the Salvation Army. It is also Dollar Dog Night presented by Sugardale and there will be postgame free throws.
The Canton Charge is part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization and also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Majority Owner and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League and the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, both of which play their games at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.
