Canton Charge smothers Greensboro Swarm with help from Cavalier’s Kay Felder
It was championship blanket night at the Canton Memorial Civic Center as the Canton Charge (8-8), powered by the NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers gave fans a warm and fuzzy felling as they defeated the Greensboro Swarm (6-13), 124-95 as 3,198 looked on. The 29 point margin of victory marks the highest point difference for the Charge this season. The win puts Canton ahead in the season series 2-0 against the Swarm with two games coming up in early 2017.
Cleveland Cavaliers rookie guard Kay Felder made the trip from Cleveland and scored a game high 33 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in 38 minutes of playing time. Quinn Cook was good for 32 points with five rebounds and six assists in 38 minutes making it the second time this season that Charge teammates scored over 30 points in the same game. The last occurrence was on November 20, 2016 when Cook and Evans tied for 31 each against Westchester.
Charge Forward Eric Moreland made a mark in the team record books with a franchise best 22 rebounds and 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting in 36 minutes making this the fourth time this season that Moreland hit a double-double. Also of note was John Holland who scored 21 points on 8-of-17 with six rebounds and two assists in 36 minutes.
Point leader for Greensboro was Archie Goodwin who netted 25 points with 11-of-18 shooting and 12 rebounds in 41 minutes. Christian Wood scored a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds in 41 minutes. Greensboro lost the handle on the ball 17 times resulting in 19 Canton points as compared to nine turnovers for the Charge that resulted in nine Swarm points.
The next seven games find the Canton Charge on the road including this Friday, December 30, 2016 at 7 p.m. when they take on the Erie BayHawks (Orland Magic). The next home came at the Canton memorial Civic Center will be against The Maine Red Claws on January 25, 2017 at 11 a.m.
The Canton Charge are part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization and also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Majority Owner and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League and the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, both of which play their games at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.
