Canton Charge uses mid-game surge to defeat Maine Red Claws

It was a vocal crowd that gathered for the Sunday afternoon 3 p.m. tip-off and they had plenty to cheer about as the Canton Charge (20-17), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, defeated the Atlantic Division-leading Maine Red Claws (23-15), 105-88, at the Memorial Civic Center.

Kay Felder (on loan from the Cleveland Cavaliers) led all scorers with 30 points as he hit 11-of-22 with three steals and two blocks in 32 minutes. John Holland was next on the list with 27 points and eight rebounds in 39 minutes. Roosebelt Jones hit for 18 points and grabbed a game high 15 boards with two steals in 37 minutes of court time and Eric Moreland posted nine points with 13 rebounds, two steals and three blocks in 36 minutes of game time.

Down by two as the clock ticked towards the halftime break, Canton went on a 20-8 shooting spree that did not let up until the 6:56 mark of the third quarter. The Charge was able to stay ahead throughout the rest of the game. One huge factor was Canton’s Defense that held Maine to just 15 points in the third period while forcing eight turnovers (resulting in 12points) while limiting the Red Claws to 5-of-13 from the floor or 39%.

The lead scorer for Maine was Jalen Jones who had 23 points to his credit with eight rebounds in 35 minutes. Abdel Nader followed with 16 points and five rebounds in 35 minutes. Coming off the bench, Arthur Edwards added 16 points in 28 minutes.

Canton continues their five-game home stand with a visit from the Greensboro Swarm (Charlotte Hornets) on Tuesday, February 28th at 7:00 p.m. with tickets starting at just $8!
