Canton Charge hangs on against the Austin Spurs to win sixed game in a row

It was a total team effort as the Canton Charge (25-17), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, rallied in the fourth quarter for a 104-101 victory over a very tough Austin Spurs (19-22) as 3,229 fans loudly cheered them on at the Canton Memorial Civic Center this past Saturday afternoon. On hand for the victory was friends of Pozzi as various area team mascots stopped by for a visit.

It was a tight game all afternoon as neither team could get enough momentum to pull ahead. With the clock winding down and the score tied, Kay Felder (on assignment from the Cleveland Cavaliers) fought his way through a crowd of defenders for a lay-up. As the Spurs took the ball down to their end of the court, Felder enacted a steal with a fast break for another layup that brought the crowd to its feet.

High scorer for Canton was john Holland who led the team with 29 points on 9-of-16 shooting and hitting 5-of-8 from the money side of the three point border on 38 minutes of court time. Kay Felder clocked in 33 minutes and added 25 points with three rebounds and three assists. Eric Moreland was the master of defense blocking nine shots and hitting for nine points, 14 rebounds and two steals in 40 minutes.

Returning from a 10 day NBA stint with the Dallas Mavericks, Quinn Cook scored 13 points with three assists in 30 minutes on the clock. The other high scorer was Jonathan Holmes with 10 points, nine rebounds and five assists in 34 minutes. It was the first Canton win of the season that had the team shooting under 40%.

For Austin it was Orlando Johnson leading the way with 24 points and seven rebounds in 38 minutes while Cory Jefferson was good for 16 points with seven boards in 27 minutes. Charles Garcia was strong off the bench with 17 points and 10 rebounds in 23 minutes. Added to this was Livio Jean-Charles who added his 13 points, eight rebounds, two steals and three blocks to the total stats.

The Canton Charge is part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization and also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Majority Owner and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League and the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, both of which play their games at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.
