Canton Charge hangs on by their fingernails for win in last regular season home court game
It was a sellout crowd of 3,903 that came to celebrate fan appreciation night as the
Canton Charge (28-18), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, held off the Windy City Bulls (19-25) in a 104-101 victory during the final regular season game.
The game began slowly for the guys in gold as they had trouble finding the hoop in the first few minutes of regulation. They were soon able to settle down and keep pace with Windy City in part due to an amazing display of tough by the book defense as the game was chock full of dramatic blocks and steals.
The Charge’s Cameron Jones was high scorer with 22 points on 10-15 in 34 minutes of court time. Jonathan Holmes scored his fifth double-double of the4 season with 18 points and 10 rebounds in 35 minutes. Eric Moreland scored eight points, 20 rebounds, three steals and five blocks in 36 minutes. This is the ninth win in the past ten games as the Charge takes the inaugural season with the Windy City Bulls, 3-1.
Larry Sanders (on assignment from the Cleveland Cavaliers scored two points and three blocks in 12 minutes. Jordon Crawford hit for 17 points and six assists in 28 minutes during his first start with the Canton Charge. Mike Williams came off the bench or 12 points and five assists in 20 minutes and John Holland was good for 19 points and two blocks in 35 minutes.
For the Windy City Bulls it was Alec Brown leading the way with 24 points on 6-of-8 from the three point arch to go along with six rebounds and three steals in 21 minutes. Duje Dukan scored 21 points and seven boards in 42 minutes. Wesley Saunders worried the Charge with 13 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and five steals in 36 minutes. Jon Octeaus added 18 points and six rebounds in 30 minutes.
Canton will play their final four season games on the road beginning with a visit to the Maine Red Claws (Boston Celtics) on Thursday, March 23, 2017 with tip-off at 7 p.m.
The Canton Charge are part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization and also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Majority Owner and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Cleveland Gladiators of the Arena Football League and the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, both of which play their games at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.
