Canton Charge come up short in high scoring contest against Memphis Hustle
In the end it was the little things during the game that came back to defeat the Canton Charge in their home opener. A missed free throw here, a missed three pointer there and a couple of in and out lay-ups all led to the seven point deficit (124-117) that spelled victory for the newly minted Memphis Hustle in their only contest against the Canton Charge this season. The loss drops the Canton Charge to 1-3 while raising the Memphis Hustle to 2-2.
A total of seven Memphis players hit double figures with Ivan Rabb scoring a double-double of 22 points and 10 rebounds that included two steals and two blocked shots in 34 minutes of playing time. Omari Johnson contributed 19 points with 7-of-12 shooting in 32 minutes of court time. Jeremy Morgan flew off the bench for 16 points and two blocks in 27 minutes while Kobi Simmons had 15 points with six assists in 38 minutes.
For the Charge it way JaCorey Williams who led all scoring for the night with 25 points on 11-of-13 shooting as he grabbed 11 rebounds in 25 minutes. John Holland scored 22 with eight assists and three steals in 39 minutes of play. Kendrick Perkins netted 18, grabbed six boards and swatted two in 29 minutes and lastly Marcus Thorton scored 16 points with five rebounds in 43 minutes.
Canton will be on a short road trip for two divisional games that include a game against the Grand Rapids Drive this coming Saturday, November 18 at 7 p.m. The Charge will be back at Canton Memorial Civic Center in time for Youth Football Night presented by the Pro Football Hall of Fame as they battle the Long Island Nets (Brooklyn Nets) on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 7 p.m. The first 1,500 fans 16 and under will receive Charge youth footballs with adults receiving a 2-for-1 admission pass for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
