Canton Charge snow over the Grand Rapids Drive with a blizzard of shots
As fans entered the Canton Memorial Civic Center last evening they were given a four page newspaper courtesy of the Canton Repository. The supplement carried articles about the Canton Charge players as well as the match-up for that night’s contest. One interesting fact was the two team’s win/loss record. Canton was at 5-7 and the Grand Rapids Drive at 7-9. This made it look like a pretty even match-up between the two.
As the game began Canton had some trouble connecting on their shooting and it took a few minutes for them to score their first points. It was a Marcus Thorton three-pointer that put the Charge ahead for the rest of the game leading by as much as 23 as they finished the game 11 points ahead for the 113-102 victory.
Canton found “the three bomb” hitting 16 (a season high) combined with a season-best 55% making 41-of-74 shots. It was also the second straight game that saw seven players scoring in double figures. Akeem Springs led Canton with a season-high 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting in 26 minutes. Cleveland Cavaliers assignment Ante Zizic scored 16 points on 5-of-6 from the field and 6-of-6 from the foul line in 16 minutes. The Charge bench unit accounted for 70 points in the game.
Thornton, who had started the rally finished with 16 points and four assists in 31 minutes. London Perrantes netted 12 points and dished out nine assists in 33 minutes. JaCorey Williams tallied his fourth double-double of the year by finishing with 11 points and 11 boards with two steals in 34 minutes.
At the Drive end of the court Luis Montero scored 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting in 34 minutes. Landry Nnoko posted a double-double of 17 points and 13 boards in 34 minutes. Kenneth Smith added 12 points and five assists in 41 minutes. Jamel Morris came off the bench to score 14 points in 19 minutes for Grand Rapids.
