Canton Charge has the Drive spinning their wheels

The Grand Rapids Drive saw a small window of opportunity open in the first quarter only to have it slammed on their fingers as the game progressed. The Canton Charge (18-24) powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Grand Rapids Drive (22-20) 93-85 this past Friday evening at the Canton Memorial Civic Center. The game saw Ante Zizic earn his fifth double-double in a row as he posted 18 points with 10 rebounds during 28 minutes of court time.

Canton began slow hitting only 34% shooting in the first half but they hung tough under the opponent’s boards holding the Drive to 39% from the field that gabe Grand Rapids a slim two point margin at the half.

After a breather in the locker room Canton came out big in the third quarter hitting 54% and outscoring the visitors 31-24. Zizic and fellow Cavs teammate Marcus Thorton combined for 16 points in the third quarter alone as the Charge led by as much as eleven points at one point.

The Drive fought back and worried fans saw the comfortable lead evaporate to 82-80 with 4:11 remaining in the fourth. Zizic responded with two strong buckets giving Canton a six point advantage with 1:55 on the clock. John Holland’s three with 1:15 left sealed the deal as the Charge held on for a 93-85 victory as 2,922 fans looked on.

Charge guard London Perrantes posted 15 points and seven assists in 37 minutes running the point. Holland finished with a well-rounded effort, notching 13 points while grabbing seven rebounds, dishing five assists and swiping four steals in 33 minutes. JaCorey Williams came off of the bench to provide 10 points and eight rebounds. Gerald Beverly was a perfect 4-of-4 from the field, finishing with eight points in an efficient 12 minutes of relief.

The Charge held former Cavaliers guard Kay Felder to just six points on 2-of-10 shooting in 21 minutes of action. McDaniels starred for the Drive, scoring a team-high 17 points while grabbing 11 rebounds off of the bench. Drive big man Landry Nnoko registered a monster double-double with 14 point and 18 rebounds, battling with Zizic all night in the paint.
