Canton Charge lets one slip away in loss to Delaware Blue Coats

It was the late great Yogi Berra who said it best, “It ain’t over, ‘til its over” and yesterday’s early afternoon game between the Canton Charge (4-6), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers against the Delaware Blue Coats (5-5) 120-114 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center was a prime example. This is the third time that the Blue Coats have won against the Charge.

Canton came out strong in the first quarter scoring 45 points and at the half stood at 71 points with a comfortable 13 point lead due to 58% shooting from the field. At one point in the game the Charge was ahead by as much as 21 points.

The fourth quarter was another matter as Delaware came back from a 17 point deficit as they put together a 7-0 run cutting the lead to 10 points. The Blue Coat’s Matt Farrell sunk a three pointer with 6:10 on the clock giving his team the lead. The lead kept changing hands until Canton’s Sir Dominic Pointer hit a layup to tie the game at 110 with a followup layup by Simmons to take the lead with 4:55 left on the clock. Delaware answered back with a 6-0 run to take a 116-112 lead as Canton could only hit for one of seven attempts as the buzzer sounded with the 120-114 loss for the Charge.

Simmons was the high scorer for the Charge with 22 points, four rebounds and two assists in 28 minutes. Pointer hit for 12 points, five rebounds, six assists and four steals in 28 minutes. Muhammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman was good for 15 off the bench while JaCorey Williams scored 14 points in 25 minutes of relief.

On the Blue Coats end it was reserve DeVaughn Aloon-Purcell scoring a game high 28 points off the bench with four rebounds and five assists. Farrell totaled 22 points and seven assists in 33 minutes. Norvel Pelle earned a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Canton goes on the road for a divisional match-up against the Fort Wayne Ant on Monday, December 3, 2018 with their next home game scheduled for December 6, 2018 with a 7 p.m. tip-off time.

The Canton Charge are part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization and are also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Chairman and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert.
