Canton Charge drop one in overtime against the Capital City Go-Go

This time it took an overtime but results were the same as the Canton Charge (7-13) powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers fell to the Capital City Go-Go (10-9) at the Canton Memorial Civic Center. The Go-Go went on a dunking rampage throughout the game that added greatly to their winning in spite of Charge guard Kobi Simmons scoring a season high 32 points.

The game began tight as the teams tied at 29 after 12 minutes. Simmons and Charge reserve guard Levi Randolph were responsible for 21 of the Charge’s 29 points hitting a combined 8-of-12 shooting. In the second quarter Canton took control outscoring Capital City 31-22 as they hit for 55% from the field. At one point the home team led by as much as 15 points and led 60-51 at the half.

Capital City regrouped during the break and scored 39 points on 16-of-21 shooting (76%) with Wizards call-up two way guards Devin Robinson and Jordon McRae combining for 20 points on 12-of-15 shooting in the third time period. Canton fought back and was leading by 11 with 9:49 remaining but the Go-Go rallied to take a 90-85 lead as the teams faced the fourth quarter.

Canton got more solid play from Simmons and Randolph as they fought back to within three with 1:28 remaining. Randolph hit for a long three to tie the game but Capital City guard Chris Chiozza performed an alley-oop to take the lead with 36 seconds on the clock. Simmons replied with a game tying layup with 28.9 seconds remaining. Chiozza’s shot was blocked and the score remained tied as Charge forward Jaron Blossomgame missed a 12 foot jumper.

It was all the Go-Go’s Jordan McRae scoring all eight points in overtime as Capital City sealed the game with a 122-117 score. McRae got high score honors for the game with 43 points, eight rebounds and four assists in 41 minutes. Robinson added 26 points and eight rebounds with four assists in 41 minutes. Forward Isaiah Armwood was good for a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards.

Simmons paced the Charge with 32 points. Randolph provided 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting off of the bench. Emanuel Terry was a spark off of the bench, notching his third double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds in 18 workman-like minutes. Blossomgame scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds in his first game with the Charge since December 15th.

The Canton Charge will be on the road for the next three games with their first stop being a visit to the Memphis Hustle on Monday, january 7th at 8 p.m. They return on Tuesday, January 15th to battle the Norther Arizona Suns with tip off at 7:00 pm.

The Canton Charge are part of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Quicken Loans Arena organization and are also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Chairman and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, who play their games at Quicken Loans Arena in downtown Cleveland.
