The Great Big Home + Garden Show is a nice escape from the weather madness

One thing you have to admit this winter season in Cleveland is that it has not been dull. Following an above average temps for December we had a major blizzard hit us in January followed by thunderstorms followed by sub-zero temperatures followed by spring like balmy days in early February.

So how does the average citizen of Northeast Ohio deal with this unprecedented roller coaster ride of extremes? They cope by taking a mid-winter break at the I-X Center as The 10th Annual Great Big Home + Garden Show makes its yearly stop by bringing spring to the masses.

Your walk among the flowers, trees and plants begins at the Garden Showcase sponsored by WKYC-TV, WDOK-FM and WQAL-FM. This year has fifteen extraordinary gardens that have been done up to reflect the theme “Treasured Fairytales.” New this year are garden shops within the display areas where you can purchase various items featured in the displays.

Ideas for the various displays come from a collection of sources. What follows is a list of creators and their working theme: Auburn Career Center (Little Red Riding Hood), Brothers Grimm Landscape & Design (Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales), Carvings by Chris (Alice in Wonderland), CK Stonescapes (Alice in Wonderland), Falling Waters, Ohio LLC (The Frog Prince), Fleck and Sons Landscape Service (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs), Landscape Design Associates Inc. (Hansel & Gretel then and now), Lorain County JVS (Humpty Dumpty), Maple Ridge Nursery and Garden Center (The Wizard, The Gatekeeper and the Watchman), Natural Falls Construction (Robin Hood), N.F.L. Landscape Design and Construction (The Unexpected Fairy Tale), Ohio Landscape Association (The Enchanted Forest), The Ohio Valley Group Inc. (The Magic Tree House), Pandy’s Gardern Center (The Wizard, The Gatekeeper and the Watchman) and Williams Landscaping and Pavers (Rapunzel).

Once you have seen all the gardens...then what? There are model homes to tour that show the newest in innovations, space design, technology as well as energy savings. Take a tour of the Idea Homes and Backyard Living areas,, The Vault and the expansive Custom Home Area. Starting to feel a bit peckish? There are a number of places to grab a quick bite to eat throughout the show.

Once refreshed and renewed you can visit with the over 600 exhibitors who carry literally everything you need for home, garden and yard. There is everything you need from Acme Fencing to Zee Zee’s hanging chairs and everything in between.

Throughout the day various special guests will be on hand at the north HBA Main Stage Area to walk you through various project ideas designed to help your dwelling make a statement. Learn from the experts from such diverse speakers as representatives from Sherwin-Williams, Desssert Flippers stars Eric & Lindsey Bennett, Kitchen Designer Guru John Hall, Matt Fox with Great Weekend Projects, Cookiing by Kate Csepegi of Loretta Pagannini School of Cooking and much much more.

Plan to spend the better part of the day in order to take it all in as you return home with an entire brain full of interesting (and more importantly) doable projects for the coming months.

The show will be occupying the I-X Center through Sunday, February 10, 2019. Tickets may be purchased online by going to https://greatbighomeandgarden.com/ or by calling (440) 248-5729.
