As they say, all good things must come to an end, and so it was with the Canton Charge five game winning streak. The Canton Charge, powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers lost to the Austin Spurs (17-24) 117-106 during the Charge’s “Salute to Service” night sponsored by Ohio CAT. The Spurs had been riding a five game losing streak but with the return of former Charge guard John Holland managed to stymie the home team.

Before the tip-off last night, Charge Head Coach Nate Reinking presented former charge player Holland with a commemorative Charge jersey after a tribute video was shown to the nearly packed house of 3,504 fans. Holland had been named 2017 NBA G League Impact Player of the Year having appeared in 99 games for Canton from 2015 to 2019. His 1,896 points are second only to guard Antoine Agudio (1,975 points). During last night’s game he scored 19 points on 5-of-12 shooting with five assists and four rebounds.

Canton was without the skills of leading scorer Kobi Simmons for the sixth straight game as Levi Randolph picked up the slack with the game high 22 points on 7-of-11 in 38 minutes. Crowd favorite Scoochie Smith was strong as well with 19 points and seven assists. Sit Dominic Pointer came off the bench with a stellar showing of 19 points on 9-of-14 shooting plus a Canton Charge franchise record of seven steals. Also strong off the bench as JaCorey Williams hitting for 16 points on 8-of-11 as he put on a display of jaw dropping dunks.

In total, seven Spur players scored in double figures with four recorded double-doubles. Leading the way was Travis Trice with 14 points and a game high 13 assists. Josh Huestis was good for 10 points and 11 rebounds and Ben Moore hit for 14 points and 11 rebounds in 33 minutes. Center Amida Brimah dominated the paint with a team high 20 points and 10 rebounds. The Spurs came to Canton with a league low 41.4 rebounds per contest and beat the Charge in this category 49-38 that included offensive rebounds. Antonio also held a 19-13 advantage in second chance points.

The Canton Charge next home games are scheduled as matinee games as they host the Wisconsin Herd with tip-off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 9th and a 3 p.m. tip-off on Sunday March 10th against the Lakeland Magic. This is Charge Family Weekend presented by Dunkin’!
