Canton Charge playoff hopes are smashed by Stockton Kings

It was a battle royale as the Canton Charge (18-27), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers were outmaneuvered by the Stockton Kings (28-18), 115-110 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on Tuesday evening. The victory helped the Kings clinch a playoff berth in the NBA G League Western Conference.

Even though Canton was playing their third home game in the last four days, there was no signs of fatigue as six-of-eight players scored in double figures. Starting Charge players; Levi Randolph, Jaron Blossomgame and JaCorey Williams all earned a double-double for the home team. Williams was top man with 24 points and 10 rebounds making this his second consecutive double-double. Blossomgame followed with 16 points and 10 rebounds in 39 minutes o

Guard Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman in his third start of the season scored a career high 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting plus six steals in 36 minutes. Guard Malik Newman has averaged 18.9 points in his last seven games hit for 21 points on 50% shooting from the field.

For the Kings it was Lima, Ohio native and University of Findlay graduate Taren Sullivan returning to Ohio for a 21-and-10 double-double in 33 minutes. Sullivan began the game by scoring the first five points for the Kings that included a picture perfect alley-oop. In the second half, Sullivan was again hot on the court scoring nine of the first 11 points for Sacramento giving them an eight point lead.

The Kings’ Two-Way forward Troy Williams scored 22 points off the bench in 27 minutes of relief play. Cody Demps led the Kings with 23 points with 10-of-16 shooting from the field. Reserve center Daniel Ochefu was ejected at the 4:46 mark of the last quarter as he earned a second technical foul during the course of the game.

Canton was down by as many as 15 deep into the third quarter but managed to rally back to cut the lead to just two points with 24 seconds left in the game following two Adbur-Rahkman free-throws. Costly penalties allowed the Kings to go 3-for-4 from the charity stripe to close out the game in their favor. The loss ended the Charge bid for the playoffs for this season.

The last home game of the season will be held this coming Saturday, March, 16, 2019 against the Erie BayHawks. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. This is fan appreciation night as the Canton Charge says thank you to their fans with lots of giveaways during the game. Also, the first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Larry Nance, Jr. Cavaliers Series Bobblehead.
