Canton Charge wows the crowd during fan appreciation sell-out
The Canton Charge(20-27) saved the best home game for last as they clawed their way back for a 103-100 victory over the Erie BayHawks (21-26) in front of a sellout crowd of 3,905 at the Canton Memorial Civic Center on Saturday evening. This is the 29th time that Canton has defeated the Erie BayHawks since the franchise began and is the most against any single opponent.
The Charge’s three musketeers in the form of Levi Randolph, JaCorey Williams, and Jaron Blossomgame earned their third consecutive double-double as a trio. Randolph hit 13-of-24 for a season high 29 points to lead all game scorers along with a season high 10 rebounds. This is his third double-double of the season and sixth of his NBA G League career.
Williams was stellar with 18 hard fought points, 13 rebounds, six assists and four driving blocks in 41 minutes of playing time. This was Williams fourth double-double in a row.
Blossomgame notched his fourth double-double in a row as well scoring 17 points with 11 rebounds in 37 minutes on the court. Crowd favorite Scoochie Smith had his say with 17 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Newcomer Nigel Johnson (signed earlier in the week from the Available Player Pool) added nine points from the bench.
It looked grim at the end of the third quarter with Canton trailing 84-75 during a strongly fought game. Defense was the key as the Charge rallied by forcing six turnovers in the last 12 minutes of play that put eight points on the score board. This defensive drubbing kept Erie in check as they could only muster 30% scoring. The Charge took advantage as 7-of-11 field goals were assists.
The Charge shot 55% in the last 12 minutes of the game outscoring Erie 28-16 as the crowd roared their approval. Canton is 6-2 in their final home games of the regular season having won four straight.
On the BayHawk end of things it was Cat Barber and Jeremy Hollowell matching for 19 points to lead the BayHawks. Barber showed his all around skills as he added 11 assists and seven rebounds in 42 minutes of action. Unfortunately, Barber left the game with an injury late in the fourth quarter.
Center Isaac Humphries also earned a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds in 26 minutes. Erie will finish the season with a three game homestand as they face the Maine Red Claws this Wednesday.
Canton will close out the 2019-2019 season with three games on the road beginning with a trip to Delaware on Monday with a 7 p.m. tip-off time against the Blue Coats.
