The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame wants you to ROCK OUT!

Think about it. In the history of Rock and Roll where did nearly every super group get their start? That’s easy, in a garage, or a loft or a basement. Most rockers came from humble beginnings having to sacrifice in order to get enough gear to find “that sound” that they knew they had.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum has taken this idea to its furthest reaches. On the second floor of the museum you can actually experience the garage band sound or as the Rock Hall puts it, “It’s Your Turn To Play!”

For the first time in the Museum’s twenty-four year history, fans can pick up real instruments, follow video tutorials and learn to play, jam with friends, make a video of their performance and even brand their band with name specific custom merchandise.

It’s all happening in the Rock Hall’s newest exhibit “The Garage” that will be opening on July 1, 2019. Now you will be able to crank the knob to 12 and play until your ears bleed.

Included in the three room display are twelve dedicated instrument stations that feature guitars, drums and keyboards as well as an instructional video. You pick what song you want to perform from a list that includes classic rock soul, grunge and hip-hop (sorry, no Mozart). The songs are easy to play and were selected to fit a range of musical abilities from expert to beginner. In essence it is geared to fit the 50,000 students that visit the Museum annually. For some this may be the first time they ever had an instrument in their hands. Once you master the song you and your band can move onto the recording studio that is filled with a wide array of instruments.

Also on display (but not playable) are a collection of iconic artifacts from the Rock Hall’s collection including original guitars and original poster art. There is even an acoustic room stocked with a variety of playable stringed instruments for pop-up classes and demonstrations.

The Garage takes over the Museum’s second floor and is part of the Rock Hall’s ongoing changes to make Rock and Roll an interactive experience. Other changes include an immersive theater experience, an added outdoor summer stage plus an interactive Hall of Fame floor.

The Garage was a project in which everyone connected with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame had a say in its development. All departments at the Rock Hall were involved in the decision making process. On Friday, June 28, 2019 members of the media as well as VIPs were invited to attend the grand opening of The Garage. Greg Harris (current CEO and President of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame) opened the event with Rock Hall Inductee Darryl DMC McDaniels & The Hellraisers who gave a live performance in the brand new recording studio section of The Garage.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s mission is to engage, teach and inspire through the power of rock and roll. The Rock Hall shares the stories, events and songs that shaped not only Rock and Roll but the world as well.
