Canton Charge pulls off a miracle win with a buzzer beating shot
Throughout the game it looked grim as the Long Island Nets kept the frustrated Canton Charge at bay at times leading by as much as 18 points. But this “never say die” team fought back...no...clawed their way back in the fourth quarter with a 16-3 run and went ahead on a Sir ‘Dominic Pointer triple as Canton took a momentary lead of 116-114 with 22.6 seconds left to play. All hearts sank in the Canton Memorial Civic Center when the Net’s Timothe Luwanu-Cabarrot hit a three pointer to take the lead back at 117-116. With less than five seconds showing on the clock, Canton rebounded at their end of the court as Sheldon Mac took the inbound pass and fought his way to the paint for a picture perfect reverse layup as the final buzzer sounded. This is the Canton Charge’s, powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, third straight win as they now sit 5-1 for the season with the Long Island Nets falling to 1-4.
Sheldon Mac scored 15 points in the fourth quarter for a total of 34 points on 12-of-20 shooting to lead the team in scoring. Sir ‘Dominic Pointer finished with 23 points, four steals and three blocks in 34 minutes. Malik Newman was good for 17 points and five assists in 35 minutes and Tyler Cook came off the bench to add 16 points and four rebounds in 29 minutes. Rounding out the night was J.P. Macura hitting for 15 points with four assists and two steals in 35 minutes.
The hard charging Nets were led by Lawawu-Cabarrot who scored 35 points with 15 rebounds and seven assists in 41 minutes. John Egbunu had a perfect 11-of-11 from the field for 22 points in 25 minutes. Jaylen Hands and Jahmal McMurray both added 14 points to the score. Overall, the Nets were 47-80 for 59% but it was in the battle of the turnovers 21-12 that led to a Canton victory.
