Canton Charge has strong start that carries through against Long Island Nets
Early on in the first quarter the Canton Charge (12-6), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, took a double digit lead against the Long Island Nets (6-12) that held all the way to a 107-91 win on Saturday evening at the Canton Memorial Civic Center during their Cleveland Cavaliers Whammer bobblehead giveaway.
J.P. Macura started off the festivities with a single-handed eight point run that put the Charge ahead 12-1. It was a lead that the Nets would not be able to surmount. Dean Wade added seven on a 3-for-6 shooting spree that brought Canton up to 35 points. This is the third most points scored by Canton in a quarter this season.
In the second quarter, Levi Randolph hit two out of three from behind the arc adding eight points to the score. Overall it was the Charge defense that dominated in the first half with 5 steals, 24 defensive rebounds and the allowance of only 41 points which ties the season record for fewest opponent points in the first half.
The final stats had Macura leading Canton with 19 points with 7-for-10 from the field. Two-way player Tyler Cook earned a double-double of the season with 16 points and a team high 12 rebounds. Levi Randolph needed his eighth career double-double with thirteen points and ten boards. Marques Bolden used his size to block five shots that added to his 14 points and eight rebounds.
For the Nets it was John Egbunu hitting for 26 points as he shot 12-for-14 from the floor as well as 11 rebounds in 29 minutes. Jaylen Hands scored 13 points and four assists in 32 minutes. Jonathan Kasibabuy ended the evening with 12 points on 5-for-9 shooting in 19 minutes on the court.
The Charge hits the road for a pair of contests beginning with a visit to the Greensboro Swarm on Monday, December 30th with tip-off at 7 p.m.
The Canton Charge is part of the Cleveland Cavaliers organization and is also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Chairman and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, who play their games at Rocket Mortgage Field House in downtown Cleveland.
