Canton Charge fall in defeat against our neighbors to the north, Raptors 905

The Canton Charge (15-9), powered by the Cleveland Cavaliers, started out strong in the first quarter but the Raptors 905 (10-14) took advantage of some home team mental lapses as they defeated the Charge 123-114 on Friday night at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.

Canton’s J.P. Macura (15 points with 6-6 FGA) and Raptors 905’s Tyler Ennis (14 points, 6-7 FGA) put on a real show for the opening quarter with the Charge pulling ahead by as much as 11 points for the first quarter. The second quarter was a different matter as the Raptors regrouped finding an offense that worked (primarily uncontested lay-ups) shooting 72% with 13-of-18 attempts. This led to a 37-24 point difference and a 70-62 lead at the half.

In the third quarter the 905 poured it on leading by as many as 20 points before the Charge was able to get their feet back under them and chip away at the lead. Canton managed to get within eight points at the close of the third quarter but the closest they could get for the rest of the game was a six point deficit as they tried a slew of three point attempts with only 2-of 11 to show for the effort.

It was J.P. Macura who led the Charge with a season high 28 points combined with seven rebounds in 36 minutes. Marques Bolden earned his third double-double in his last four games scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and a season high five assists. New to the team was Cleveland Cavaliers Two-Way Player Matt Mooney with a debut of 10 points and seven assists coming off the bench with 30 minutes on the court.

For the Raptors 905, Tyler Ennis was top man with 35 points, six rebounds and seven assists in 38 minutes. He was followed by Oshae Brissett who scored 21 points on a 6-of-8 shooting in 33 minutes. Justin Anderson added 19 points with Paul Watson putting up 12 points combined with five assists. Combined, the 905 set a new Canton Charge opponent season high with 49-of-90 shooting for 54.4%.

The two teams return tonight, Saturday, January 18, 2020 to battle it out at the Canton Memorial Civic Center for CAVS Night presented by D.D. Stutz Catering. The first 1,500 fans will receive a Mark Price bobblehead. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

The Canton Charge is part of the Cleveland Cavaliers organization and is also owned by a group led by Cavaliers Chairman and Quicken Loans Founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert. The group also owns and operates the Cleveland Monsters of the American Hockey League, who play their games at Rocket Mortgage Field House in downtown Cleveland.
