Cleveland Charge fight back in dramatic fashion for come from behind victory




WHAT A COME BACK!!!! Down by 24 in the second half, The Cleveland Charge (15-14) fought back inch by inch to defeat the Long Island Nets (22-6) 122-115 as 3,548 totally involved fans cheered them on at the Wolstein Center in downtown Cleveland on Friday night, St. Patrick’s Day. It was more than the luck of the Irish as superior coaching brought the right personnel at the right time into the fray.


For the Cleveland Charge it was Isaiah Mobley earning his 10th double-double of the season scoring 26 points along with 15 rebounds and three steals in 35 minutes on the court. Blake Francis came off the bench to score a phenomenal 26 points in 20 minutes, all in the second half. Sam Merrill (on assignment from the Cleveland Cavaliers) hit for 20 points and grabbed five rebounds with a pair of steals in 39 minutes. Cleveland overpowered Long Island 69-46 in the second half and 40-15 in the fourth quarter in the come from behind victory.


The nets had RaiQuan Gray scoring 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting with nine rebounds and three steals in 34 minutes. Kaiser Gates scored on 5-of-8 from the three point arch for a total of 21 points with six boards in 20 minutes off the bench. Alondes Williams score 19 points in 29 minutes for Long Island.


The two teams meet again tomorrow, Saturday, March 18th with tip-off at 7:00 p.m. The Cleveland Charge will be honoring the city’s WNBA past as they celebrate Cleveland Rockers 25th Anniversary Night presented by Athleta.
