Cleveland Charge fights back for weekend sweep over Long Island Nets




As one of the largest crowds (3,850) of the season looked on at the Wolstein Center in downtown Cleveland, Ohio the Cleveland Charge (16-14) defeated the Long Island Nets (22-7) Saturday night as they swept the weekend contests between the two clubs.


The Charge led for most of the first half padding the score by as much as 10 points but in the third quarter the Nets came back with a strong defense and tied it up going into the fourth. It was back and forth in the fourth quarter until Cleveland put together their own strong defense as well and some outstanding scoring as they pulled ahead by eight to win the game.


For Cleveland, four players scored 20+ points. They were led by Isaiah Mobley who earned his 11th double-double of the season with 24 points and 10 rebounds in 28 minutes. Cleveland Cavaliers assignment Sam Merrill pounded in 24 points along with six rebounds, five assists and two steals in 34 minutes. Dylan Windle (also on assignment from the Cavaliers) scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds in 36 minutes. Sharife Cooper came through with 20 points with five assists and two steals in 34 minutes. Mamadi Diakite also earned a double-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, two steals and three blocks in 40 minutes.


Long Island’s David Duke Jr. scored a game-high 27 points in 39 minutes. Jordan Bowden added 26 points along with two steals in 37 minutes. Dru Smith earned a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds with five assists and four steals in 38 minutes.


The Cleveland Charge final home game at the Wolstein Center will be Thursday, March 23, 2023 with tip-off at 7:00 p.m. It will be Cleveland Salute Night presented by The Plug Appliances. Charge fans will be thanked for their loyalty throughout the season with prizes all game long. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Cavalier player bobblehead. Tickets start at just $5.
