Cleveland Charge fights to the bitter end for a last second victory against the Skyhawks




It is a true mark of champions to not dwell on defeats but to fight back for their next victory. This was true last evening when the Cleveland Charge (9-2) defeated the College Park Skyhawks (5-6), 116-115 at CSU’s Wolstein Center. The win splits a two game homestead.


Both teams kept within striking distance of each other as the physical match entered the fourth quarter. Things heated up as the Charge faithful saw three lead changes and five ties. The excitement was palpable as the Skyhawks led in the closing minutes by as much as five points. Everyone in attendance held their collective breath as Cleveland battled back to within two points. With 4.5 seconds on the clock Nate Hinton hit a side court three pointer giving the charge a one point lead with just 1.9 seconds left. College Park in-bounded the ball at their end of the court but the shot went wide of the basket as pandemonium broke out in the stands and with the team members. Cleveland finishes with a 2-1 edge over the Skyhawks in the season series.


Isaiah Mobley let the game with 25 points and a game high seven assists, five boards and three blocks. Hinton along with the game winning three pointer finished the night with 23 points as he shot 80% from the floor in 34 minutes. Hard working Chandler Vaudrin earned a double-double with 15 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and four steals in 40 minutes. Jamorko Pickett also earned a double-double (his ninth) with 17 points, 12 boards and five strong blocked shots.


For the Skyhawks it was Brandon Williams the top player with 24 points and six assists in 39 minutes. Armoni Brooks hit for 23 points with 18 coming from past the arc. This went with his team high eight rebounds.


The Charge go on the road to Canada as they play a two game set against the Raptors 905 (Toronto Raptors) with the first game scheduled for Thursday, February 2, 2023. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m. Charge fans can catch the action live on the teams mobile app or watch the game live on ESPN+.
