Cleveland Charge show their grit against a tough Maine Celtics team

It is always great when your team wins but this victory was especially sweet. Cleveland started out in a hole as Maine took a quick eight point lead and at one point during the game pulled ahead by 10.

The Charge fought back taking the lead and going ahead by ten themselves but the Celtics were not to be denied. They clawed their way to within two points. It was some brilliant defensive play as well as some notable offense for the home team as the Cleveland Charge (3-15) of the NBA G League beat the Maine Celtics (8-12), 95-90 at the Wolstein Center on Friday night.

A total of six Charge players hit double figures. They were led by Malik Newman who scored 19 points with 10 rebounds earning him his second double-double of the season. Norvel Pelle was all energy as his double-double included 12 points, 17 boards and two blocks. Dylan Windler, on assignment from the Cleveland Cavaliers, was good for 15 points with five rebounds and six assists.

Maine’s top scorer was Two-Way player Matt Ryan who scored 22 points on 9-of-18 in 34 minutes. Former Charge Two-Way player Deng Adel came off the bench for 18 points and 13 rebounds in 33 minutes. Chris Clemons was to add 17 points and a pair of steals in 36 minutes. Cleveland scored 50 defensive rebounds on the game that set a new franchise record for a Maine opponent.

Next up will be the Cleveland Charge hosting Youth Hoops Day at the Wolstein Center. The game is this Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 12;30 p.m. as they go against the Long Island Nets. The first 2,000 fans will receive Cleveland Charge basketball socks. Tickets start at just $5!
